Leo: Robert De Niro
August 17, l943, 03:00 AM EDT  New York,
NOTE:  Compare these qualities with those of Cancer Robin Williams, and just substitute the fixed Scorpio with the dynamic fired fire of Leo.
Sun: Leo
As one of the consummate actors of his generation, Robert De Niro shows the flare and drama you'd expect from a Leo Sun-- but in his roles, he's often plays characters with a disturbing edge.  Early on, this left some of us guessing that this star of "Taxi Driver" and "Deer Hunter" was "heavy Scorpio".  As his chart revealed, he has no Scorpio (save for a empty fifth house).  However, he does have Pluto, Jupiter and his North Node all in Leo, progressively forming a loose conjunction with his Leo Sun.  This powerful grouping gives him a concentration of fixed energy.  Furthermore, a Mars in Taurus (square his Sun) makes his physical movements firm and fixed.  Add a water ascendant and moon to this, and our guesses become "archetypally" correct.

Ascendant: Cancer
Regardless of how bizarre the role, De Niro often shows  "a softer side", i.e., his Cancer ascendant.  In the film "King of Comedy" captured the dramatic extremes of a "lion/crab" combination.  There, Robert played an obsessed comic who kidnaps a famous talk show host.  Throughout the movie, this loud mouthed "King" would throw his solar tantrums, but sporadically gushes of emotions would swell to the surface-- to round his facial features and mask his fires.   In these quiet (non-ego) moments, he would hover over his victim like a mothering hen.  Cancer's protective presence was also noticeable in his relationship with Jody Foster in "Taxi Driver".

Moon: Pisces  In our introduction, we mentioned how the placement of the ascendant ruler gives a way for individuals to "embellish on their public mask".  De Niro's Cancer ascendant is ruled by the Moon and his Moon is in Pisces.  Consequently, he has an ability to miraculously alter his appearance.  In his role in "Raging
Bull", he set a new standard in film performance by totally changing his physical being-- turning from lean to muscular, then pudgy to overweight.  Likely, his Piscean emotional temperament helped him make the sacrifices for this very demanding role.

In the film "Awakenings", Robert portrayed one of his quieter and finest roles as a patient emerging from Neptune's net to regain "conscious expression".  Unhampered by ego or physical desire, we saw a person who expressed his lunar feelings by openly reacting to the world with bewilderment, amazement and joy!

Note how in his reactions, De Niro's rounded water features become distorted.  The resultant skewed facial lines give him a dreamy, disarming appearance.  Positively, this lunar placement adds a compassionate dimension to his normally self centered Sun energies.
Lauren Bacall
Sept. 16, 1924, 03:00 AM EDT   New York, NY
Sun: Virgo
In “To Have and Have Not” (Lauren’s first film), we saw a young Bacall casting an sultry coolness, not seen on the silver screen since Garbo (another Virgo sun).  With her earthy nature, Lauren charmed Bogey’s detective mind, enticing him with  her analytical advice and service— “If you want anything, just whistle”.
In this film and all that followed, Bacall seems to always be impeccably dressed, proper and practical, with not a hair out of place— even though (like all mutable signs) the mane curls off in different angles on the sides.  Similarly, there's a distinct skewed facial division.  One side of the face shifts upward.  This sets one eye noticeably higher than the other, and it tilts the nose and mouth.  Its difficult to define the physical shape of mutable signs since they change so much, but with Virgo, the twists and bends are held in place by Earth and this makes Virgo the easiest one to detect.

With the passage of time, Lauren’s image has turned into that of a stringent, resourceful and independent woman of the
world.  This reflects her sun and the other elements in her chart.

Ascendant: Leo
When Bacall steps back from her projecting sun energies, the nervous worrisome energies dissipate and she suddenly appears warmer and more self confident.  She's holding up her Leo mask and it gives here an elegant and commanding presence.  These fixed fire energies also  attract attention, but Lauren doesn't mind;  She feels at home putting herself out there “on show”.  Before film, she began her drama career on stage.
When the film career waned, she made her triumphant return to Broadway performing in “Applause”.  With angelic charm, she wins the hearts of her audience. (She has Venus on the ascendant and this relaxes the pompous qualities that often arise from Leo's presence).  Physically, we see the lion features in her bone structure— in the block like forehead and in the wide cheek bones.
Moon: Aries
With the ascendant, the fires are contained.  But as we have seen in Lauren’s rare interviews, the flames often become intense and highly directed, particularly when Lauren reacts or responds to others.  Her moon is in Aries and she will also express exactly what she feels.  There's no beating around the bush.  Everything is to the point.  Positively, this keep Lauren's mutable energies on track and it enhances her sense of independence.
If you know an Aries moon, you might notice the words “I” “me” and “mine” frequently appear in their emotional outbursts.  Fortunately, these “selfish” moments end as quickly as they start
LIBRA: Susan Sarandon
Oct. 4, 1946 / 2:25 P.M., EST /  New York, NY
Early on, this star exhibited a rare ability to be thoughtful, sexy and controversial as she quickly erased the sugary, cream-puff image assigned to most ex-models (and a lot of Libras).  More so, Susan demonstrates the social activism of someone like John Lennon (who also was a Libra with a Capricorn Moon).  She has a similar mix of cardinal energies and it drives her to excel in her work as she attempts to correct the imbalances in the social scales.
Sun Sign: LIBRA
Susan first attracted a following as the cheerful suburbanite in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".  This film set the tone for her unorthodox and often provocative early career, as she played soft and sensual creatures caught up in greater turns of events.  With Venus on her midheaven, Susan easily showed us the sensual and sexy qualities of her Venus ruled Sun sign.  She played the brothel bound mother of Brook Shields in "Pretty Baby".  She and Catherine Deneuve (another Libra) raised eyebrows in "The Hunger" and she earned her first Oscar nod as a hapless casino worker in the seedy underbelly of "Atlantic City".
   Physically, Susan exhibits many of

Libra's evenly proportioned features.  There's the horizontal eye brows, the v-shaped smile lines, and the dimpled cheeks.  Unlike most Libras, Susan does not have Libra's typical sparkling, almond- shaped eyes.  Her eyes are round and full, and they reflect the dreamy depths of water.  (Neptune is conjunct her Sun and this injects some of the qualities often seen in Pisces).  Notably, these Neptunian/Libra qualities also soften the hardened edges of the Capricorn elements of her chart.
Ascendant and
Moon: Capricorn
Sarandon's career seems to magically progress ever more rapidly, as she becomes older.  With all this Capricorn, it's no surprise.  Saturn's capability for
endurance gives this lady the gift
of "improving with time"-- all so gracefully!  When she entered her 40's, she turned the tables and successfully portrayed the rare roles of seductive older women in "White Palace" and "Bull Durham".  Then came "Thelma & Louise", "Lorenso's Oil" and "The Client"-- and three more Oscar nominations!  Her creative powers reached a new high in 1995 with "Dead Man Walking".  Directed and produced by her Libra companion Tim Robbins, this family production was acclaimed for its even handed look at capital punishment.  This couple showed us how Libras have a remarkable gift for communicating both sides of complex issues.  On this film, Saturn rewarded Susan with an Oscar for Best Actress!
Physically, the ascendant gives Susan a stolid presence as well as bony features, accented by the wide, high placed cheek bones.  With her Moon conjunct the ascendant, emotions easily "come to the surface" only to be held "in suspension" as part of the complementary ascending mask.  This persistent presence of Capricorn makes Susan often appear emotionally cold and solemn.  Positively, it gives her a businesslike appearance, dignity and an aura of authority.
SCORPIO: Whoppi Goldberg
Nov. 13, 1955 / 12:48 P.M. EST New York, NY
Sun and Moon Sign: Scorpio
In TV interviews and as the host of the Academy Awards, Whoppi has earned a reputation of saying it "like it is".  Why not?  Her sun and moon are both in Scorpio.  In her emotional reactions and self- projection,  she expresses the full power of Scorpio-- both as a Scorpion and as an Eagle.
Scorpio's creative process usually begins with what you might call "the internal fix".   With Whoppi, you see it when her eyes take on the Scorpion's famous "hypnotic laser focus".  It's your clue that she's drawing deep within-- to evaluate "what things are of worth and value-- and what things need to be discarded".  This is her way to begin the elimination of those "bothersome influences".
With her Sun in the 9th house (conjunct Saturn), Whoppi uses comedy to expose reality's dirty laundry.   With controlled doses of "Scorpion venom", Whoppi exposes the stupidity and arrogance of others.  This public disclosure resets many strongly held feelings and belief structures.  The release often proves relieving!  Whoppi doesn't just entertain her audiences-- she transforms them!

Operating on an "external fix", Scorpio's Fixed Water fills the crevices and cracks which separate us from one another.  Like the Phoenix, Whoppi often rises above the ash, to find the connective tread that ties us all together-- as she makes us feel we're all part of a greater whole.  With an Aquarius ascendant and Jupiter conjunct her ruling planet Pluto (in the seventh house), Whoppi believes everyone has a right to "follow their bliss" and not be deprived of their fair share of the abundant, universal resources.
You can see Whoppi's eagle prepare for flight in those special moments when she has found "another grander place to perch".  Secured by her newly found discoveries, she holds her place, as if it were sacred. (It really is, for most Scorpios).  Now, she's ready to make her move to find
a new place to fix".  The piercing eyes lift up on the sides and lock on that distant site.  Her arms then pull back like wings, which in their sequential liquid flaps, send her soaring off into the heavens.

Ascendant: Aquarius

Needless to say, this Aquarius ascendant adds a touch of lightness.  It filters out some of the heavy, controlling Scorpio qualities and presents a mask which is truly appreciated by most of humanity.  In the movie "Ghost", we saw Whoppi's intuitive/psychic mix of Scorpio and Aquarius.  Out front was the erratic, electric gestures, of Aquarius.  You may recall how her face light up and her eyes widened and sparkled, when she became "amazed" by the voices and visions she picked up from the other side.  With this rising sign, she has this instantaneous urge to bring Scorpio's secrets out into the open-- for all of humanity to use.
Like Roseanne, Whoppi is a Scorpio Sun with Aquarius rising.  Both appear rebellious and unconcerned about their public image.  They say what they think, and they often dress in a bizarre and outrageous manner.   To Aquarius, appearances don't matter;  In their Scorpio hearts, they know what really counts are the actions that you take.
